CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PREGNANCY!

My name is Courtney, and I would love to be your birth and postpartum doula, here in Nelson new Zealand! I have completed my doula training through the Australian Doula College and I’m excited to provide this service to families in the Nelson Tasman region. I have been with my husband for twelve years, married for 8, and we have two boys aged 3 and 6. We live in ‘sunny Nelson’ and love raising our boys in this part of the world where we’re surrounded by the most incredible scenery which lends itself to us enjoying bike rides, boating, fishing, bush walks, and going to the beach - all of which are on our back doorstep!

I’ve been a Registered Nurse for the last 10+ years working in a private surgical hospital and have thoroughly enjoyed my time in practice, however, since I was a young girl I have always had a fascination and passion for all things pregnancy, birth and caring for families in the early postpartum days. I think the human body is incredible for growing another human, as well as an organ that nourishes the baby for 10 months, and I feel honoured and privileged to be in a position to support families, as a doula, during their transition into parenthood or when growing their family. I believe pregnancy and birth is a normal life event, and strongly feel that women already have all the strength they need to birth in their power, but it is important you feel supported and safe doing so. After two positive birth experiences myself, my goal is for all those giving birth to walk away feeling positive, empowered, and supported throughout their experience, no matter how or where you choose to birth.

I believe that my clinical experience of working in a hospital will allow me to help you navigate the hospital system, if you are birthing in this environment, so that it works with you and not against you. I also love to support homebirths. I will work collaboratively alongside other healthcare professionals to provide client-centered care, and become a valued member of the birth team, assisting in meeting and advocating for your birth wishes, while providing continuity of care throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

I will ensure you feel educated, informed and empowered prior to labour, so you are able to make informed choices along the way, and I will be there to support you in whatever it is you decide.

I believe a positive birth experience will set you up well for a positive postpartum period. More care and consideration needs to be given to the fourth trimester to ensure you can rest, recover and bond with your baby. The role of a Doula is to “mother the mother” and that’s exactly where I come in!

I will be there to support, guide, nourish and nurture you, so you can enjoy a slow, intentional postpartum period. I look forward to supporting you in the incredible journey ahead.
