I decided to become an End of Doula almost by accident, and yet it is now hard to imagine being anything else. Following the sudden death of my husband, and the organising and speaking at his funeral, I was approached by a local funeral director to work for them as a Funeral Celebrant. I had spent over two decades working with people experiencing bereavement and grief; and other situations that rendered many of them vulnerable. I had always worked in areas that maximised my natural empathy and compassion, so moving into the area of being a funeral celebrant wan't a massive leap. While preparing for my first funeral I came across this "Death Doula" thing, which pricked my interest. I immediately knew I had found my true purpose, and that I had in fact had been a Doula in some form or other most of my life. My training with Preparing the Way and further training and experience with Palliative Care WA and the Natural Death Advocacy Network mean I am well equipped to honour my calling.
