Hello I am Nicole, it is a privilege to be invited to serve people with knowledge, options and a mix of practical & emotional support. Helping to pull all the pieces together and compliment what nurses or hospice workers traditionally provide. To help the dying and community to support each other, feel more in control, safe, prepared and resourced in all end of life matters. To witness, companion and create a gentle knowing of death literacy and choices in honouring the outgoing journey through vigil, connections, personal after death care choices and home led funeral planning options.
My passion is caring for the primary carer which is paramount so they can better serve their own loved ones with confidence and support. I walk beside, shoulder to shoulder as your person, a guide who will assist in navigating medicalised systems, connecting to complementary therapies and creating a ‘home’ touch wherever you are.
I created my EOL practice in September 2019 after formal training with PTW supported with additional professional Doula training at USA Quality of Life Care years prior. My own personal experiences and lessons surrounding unexpected death, coronial inquests, terminal illness/advanced illness palliative care at home access and Aged Care Advocacy fuelled my curiosity and built a comfort around dying, death and bereavement.
While I am invited to be part of a care team, I fill the space but don’t take the place of family or friends rather by providing respite and giving the dying and family a moment to rest, breathe and take control with a stability they can count on. Stepping in when requested but always holding space with love and understanding. As an EOL Doula my genuine commitment to community is at the heart of what I do.
Sharing all that I have learnt, in honour of my best Friend Helen, who entrusted me at the end of her life to be her person. My experiences punctuated with teachings by family, friends, hospice nurses, acute care nurses, funeral directors, spiritual and holistic practitioners, EOL Doulas all form part of how I serve today. I also bring a seasoned public relations & communications career into my 'Doularing', this strength helps support outcomes for my families when in crisis in communication with medical and nursing staff, care providers, funeral homes or other personnel.
I have completed Funeral Celebrant Training and now offer this additional service into my EOL offerings.
