Leigh Connell - End Of Life Doula

Completed training: 2017

As it's stated "talking about sex won't make you pregnant and talking about death won't make you dead "! But here's the catch, talk about it not, it's 100% guaranteed, we will all die. Unfortunately fear keeps many people from really engaging,  reflecting and determining what they want at this time of life. I'm here to hold your hand through the often emotionally charged waters, the considerations and decisions to live well and die well.

Personal experiences of loss, deaths of family members, loved ones and friends and a long-held calling to this work is what lead me to become an End of Life Doula, I see this work as an honouring of each precious life and spirit.

My 30 plus years working in the Community Sector, conducting research for a University, having my own business and living in one of the most undeveloped countries in the world has equipped me with sound practical, organisational and communication skills.  I'm here to champion your journey, be a non-emotionally attached sounding board, advocate for you, help design your plan A and plan B and keep the overwhelm at bay as choices, information, paperwork and things get tough.

Areas of support may include:

Death literacy,  Advance Care Planning, family/friend support & emotional management, end of life celebrations & funeral planning, providing awareness of resources and how to make the most of them, when not championing your voice I'll advocate for you so your needs and wants are heard and met. As needed, assist with some of the normal daily things such as cooking your favourite dish or making sure pets are attended to.

Areas community engagement include:

Running a Death Cafe, hospice volunteer, providing community talks and board member of a State Peak Palliative Care organisation.

How do we get started ? Have a conversation to get a sense of where you are at, what the challenges may be, where you want to be at and if we are a good fit together. I offer a plan of what we will work on and the decision is yours to go ahead now, at a later stage or not at all.

My service is offered in packages starting at 5 hours / $400,  with package increments of greater hours at a reduced hourly rate.

This time of life is not fixed therefore flexibility is something I try to offer to meet the often moving goal posts.
