Alice Dowie - Birth & Postnatal Doula

I am a mother of nine children, the first one being born in 1981 and the youngest in 2000. Each birth was a totally different experience which I feel helps give me a degree of understanding of pregnant and birthing women.

I absolutely love pregnancy, birth and mothering and since my first child I have been very much drawn to learning all things pregnancy, birth and post partum related. Now as an older mother, I am passionate about supporting women and their partners through the beautiful, life changing and empowering time that childbirth is.

I love to respectfully listen to women’s thoughts and desires for their births and along with their medical team, help them and their partners have a safe and satisfying birth experience. This is defined by each individual woman and it’s not up to me to impose my own thoughts and beliefs.

Through my own experience, research and attending births, I believe having a positive, fear free mindset is essential for childbirth - whether a birth is natural and drug free or medical intervention is needed. I love helping women really understand this. Rather than trying to control their thoughts, women can learn to release fear and then be more able to use positive language, affirmations, visualisations, breathing techniques etc during labour and birth.

I am also available for post natal support which I offer with compassion, encouragement and understanding. This time can be full of highs and lows and whether you are a mum for the first time or the ninth time, care and support is vital.

If you choose to work with me, it would be an honour and a privilege to provide whatever support you and your partner need.
