Course Information
The birth and post natal doula:
This very special doula training course makes the magic world of birth doulaing come alive. In 20 lessons, you will become aware of your core beliefs about birth and the way that can impact on you and your clients. Our doula training will prepare you to become an outstanding doula and how to meet your own needs and the needs of your clients. You will discover how to help your clients prepare for an empowering birth, understand what empowers or disempowers a birthing woman, and how to help her to bond deeply with her newborn baby. The doula training sessions show you how to create a good working relationship with your clients. You will learn how to deal with difficult situations and how to support your clients through the first weeks after birth.
To gain your certificate, doula trainees will need to complete the follow requirements:
- Completed pre-course information sheet and all assignments
- Attended 2-terms of ten weeks training
- Attended 1 set of Childbirth Education Classes
- Supported at least 3 births as a doula in training
- Develop resources list for pregnant women and new parents
- CPR Training
- Demonstrated openness and ability to integrate knowledge and feelings
Our doula training will increase your knowledge of the natural process of birth, and the options offered to women both at home and in hospital. It will also improve your understanding of the needs of mother and baby.
It will give you the means to distinguish between traditional myth and real opportunities, and the needs of mothers. This will be a turning point in your understanding of physical, emotional and spiritual issues of childbirth.
You will receive weekly course material to work on during class and various homework assignments. Setting aside between 2-4 hours should cover the reading and homework!
Investment for our doula training is $1980.00 ( for 2 terms of 10 weeks) This amount is due in full on the first day of training unless you are on our payment plan.
Refunds are only available if we have to cancel a course.
Class fees are non transferable and the course must be completed within a year of your start date. If you need to place the doula training on hold, it is possible to do that for a period of three months if your request is received in writing.
An additional $60.00 is charged for CPR trraining. If you already hold an up to date CPR certificate you do not need to do that training again and this fee is waived.

Childbirth Educator:
To continue your doula training and expand on your personal development you may wish to consider becoming a childbirth and early parenting educator.
Courses start in February each year and follow school terms. Due to the nature of the course, places are limited so please contact us for further information.
Doula Gathering:
The Australian Doula College believes in the long term support of experienced doulas and holds a doula gathering each month for its members and trainees. The forum is to share knowledge and experiences and it also provides the perfect space for discussing new research and information related to pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum needs.
ADC Membership
On going support through membership is an important part of the ADC's structure. We believe that is best practice to be supported by a professional organisation and receive on going training to keep your doula skills up and keep your practice as a doula in check.
