Current Featured Doula
Gerri McCurtayne (NSW)
1. Why did you decide to become a Doula?
For over 25 years I have been a mum, step-mum, wife and administration manager and this has helped me develop parental, organisational and people-managing skills. I endeavour to live my life with energy and compassion, in the present and to the fullest. I believe that every woman deserves to have her baby how she wants and being a doula gives me the opportunity to transmit strength woman to woman with an open heart. I love asking questions and listening to the answers.
2. What has been your most rewarding and favourite part of being a Doula?
I love meeting and building a rapport with my doula mums.
3. What have you found to be the most challenging as a Doula?
I am disappointed if obstetricians or hospital staff advise pregnant women that doulas are a waste of time and money.
4. What are your top 3 recommendations for the birthing woman and/or her partner.
- Plan your doula as soon as you have made your decision
- Prepare for all scenarios so there are no surprises (your doula will assist you)
- Enjoy
5. What do you enjoy most about being a member of the ADC?
The ADC provides on-going training to keep skills updated. The college also offers 24 hour support for all their doulas if they need it. It is very much a family unit.
